5 Reasons Why You Should Build a Deck Instead of a Patio
i appreciate you guys. what are your thoughts on folded corners on timbertech reserve to butt fascia into? i’m in northern minnesota and i worry about glue not being strong enough and that fold cracking even with it cortex fastened
Thank you, nice and to the point, I appreciate it.
Fuck these people using that stupid AI voice bullshit. No matter how decent the video is, it's an automatic thumbs down for me.
Make sure that your contractor will quote you for at least 10 feet. Up in Timmins Ontario, we have placed that has 30 feet torque minimum....
You should get a copyright strike for this. You add nothing
11% on million dollar home is a biggg deck 😂
Brilliant summary! Any experience/opinion with Tanzite stone deck?
Finally, After researching All of the composite!!! Didn't come across Your presentation until today!! Definitely appreciate your product Knowledge!😅 To late already pulled trigger on Deckorators!! Existing 23yr old deck!! Taken care of like, new every year! All I needed to do was P W clear seal ,After all masking, plastic, tape! 4 to 6 days maybe 8 with weather. 67vrs old don't have that time to waste! Spindles are absolutely stupid. Been building houses decks ,Forever!! Thank God for saying Deckorators!! Because there's 10,000 dollars worth of it lying on the concrete!! So to important question , 20x14 8' high walk in basement. 22" cantilever. Remove the 5 4x4 and replace with 6x6 with standoff !sitting on good concrete!! He'll don't know and will DO.
I watched a few of your videos and want to say thank you for the great informative content. We are getting ready to add a deck and are curious if you would recommend Deckorators Voyage or VekaDeck. We have a Great Pyrenees, so we have minor concerns about scratches from her paws. Thanks!
Wtf
great topic guys. what are your thoughts for using camo edge clips but using the coretex plugs and face screwing the ends of boards where it butts into picture frame? best of both worlds?
One thing I like about my wood deck is that it doesn't get super hot. How do these perform in that respect?
Which board is best for the hot TX sun? Coolest board?
What do you think of the longevity of the adjustable steel deck supports? I want to use them instead of constantly lifting and tamping rock under the current concrete supports but want to make sure they won't rust or fall apart after a couple years
Unless that wall is load bearing of course!
Trying to decide if it's worth paying double for the premium line of any of these brands. It seems that the only real difference is appearance or am I wrong there? Are the premium lines higher in quality too?
Very helpful and just what I was looking for. I have been leaning toward Timber Tech over Trex just due to some of the reviews on Home Depot. I had not considered the Fiberon which they offer as well, but will check it out. Thanks
Enough of the jokes already! It interferes with you message turning it into garble. Don't think I learned a damn think with this video. Get on point, stay on point!
Best composite decking overview on youtube! 🔨🏆
My installers are having trouble with the railing installation. They have to pre-drill through multiple layers of metal. Also, for the bottom of the stairs, one of the four attachment points has nothing to screw into. They plan to simply screw a sheet of metal between the two long sides of the stair tray and screw into that. Is this what you do? Are there installation instructions from Fortress about these issues? Thanks
These clips sure hold great fastened around the joist. However, that benefit makes it near impossible to ever remove a single board since these clips won't slide when loosened like the trex or others will.
How is Varanda by Fiberon? Any good?
Thank you for your content!! Question: Will water intrusion be a problem when using plugs or camo screws for the entry level composites containing wood fibers?
Don't we want the lightest weight?
Spacing of joists must be important ? I’m hearing 16” OC and 12” OC. Present deck is on 16” fir joists OC. Do the products your displaying each require different OC spacing of the joists?
Can your dog walk on composite in the summer
I just received a quote for Wolf Serenity Decking and it includes the grooved boards. Are they manufacturing grooved edge boards now?
Found the brochure, they do make edge grooved boards now.
Which material is stronger given the same thickness - composite or PVC? I want to make sure that steps on the stairs are not flexing.
If you guys drop the circus, you might have a good show.
What about heat absorption ? Which one is the best ?
This is so confusing. I need a diagram.
My trex decking has swollen from 5-1/2" to 6-1/4 wide over the years, total crap, warranty never honored, avoid TREX! It will swell and warp.
Where do you live, thanks
Which Trex product? The first, cheaper one?
From the US here, in north central Ohio. Nice video guys. We are trying to figure out how to build a new deck. Debating on composite vs wood. We had wood and tore it out for a water repair. It was in bed shape anyway. My number one concern is how slippery the composite may be when wet or slippery from cold in winter. I love the new composite colors in enhanced naturals. Foggy Warf or Rocky Harbor. But the wood was constantly needing updates, cleaning, etc. It would get green film and slippery. I had fallen on the stairs and broke my ankle a year ago in January. Bad break. So you see my dilemma and concern. Is there any composite with a non or less slippery surface? Thanks for all the information.
I guess rhis never caught on.
This is absolutely the best overview of composite decking materials. Thank you!
Just saved me hours of research! Explained perfectly, making my decision so clear. Thank you!
Сколько сантиметров может эта штука поджать
With screws, are we not allowing water intrusion through the screw holes? Even camos, they've gotta be letting water in.
I was wondering the same thing.
So, why don’t we just use some wood?
Some people don't care to spend time maintaining a natural product like wood. Also some climates really destroy wood.
On the outer banks of North Carolina we have harsh salt air & high humidity (along with hurricanes of course…). We presently have a wooden deck, railing, & stairs, about 17 years aged. We are looking into replacing the decking and stairs landings plus all of our railing. We plan to use the existing underneath wood boarding (2x10 or 2x12 pressure treated). We want to go with the lightest color for both the decking & railing. We live in the standard beach box style house with the main house elevated on 8x8 wood stanchions. We have Nags Head Hammocks composite furniture on our deck (2 rockers, 2 Adirondack chairs, 2 captains chairs, and 2 side tables.our decks catch a LOT of direct sunlight and can get quite hot to stand on during our summer season here. We have 2 French Bulldogs who hang out on the deck with us. We want a decking that is not blistering hot to walk or stand on while out on the deck. What advice could you give us on direction here? Thanx in advance!
I’m looking into Millboard. Naturally, I was hoping you would have included that product in your review. Since this video have you come across or made a review of this product?
Best video I’ve ever seen on this complex subject. Have you checked out Millboard mineral based composite decking. All the advantages of Deckorators Voyage but even more realistic wood look and even better color choices in my opinion. Based in the UK, they use a cap material that is a vegetable oil-based biopolymer (no petroleum-based products) that is cast using real English oak boards and then hand colored so it’s virtually indistinguishable from real wood when installed. Also, no need for hidden fasteners as the polymer cap is self-healing so it closes back over the top of face-driven deck screws when countersunk below the surface per Millboard installation instructions. You can’t believe it until you see for yourself. Makes it SOOOO easy to install. I believe Millboard is even a little more expensive than Deckorators Voyage, so it’s at the very top of the premium price range. It’s been in use for over a decade in the UK and Australia and has an excellent track record from what I’ve been able to gather. As with Deckorators, Millboard provides free samples so you can see the product for yourself. If you’re looking for the best available decking option regardless of price, Millboard is it in my opinion. It’s what I’ll be installing on my new house.
Deckorators enables a higher mark-up to the customer. That's why contractors like it. TimberTech is a better product but more expensive which means a lower profit for the contractor.
That was an awful review. I expect more technical talk from you two. I'm skeptical and nothing you said helped. For example, 90% of the joist is still exposed except for the top edge. The top edge gets the tape, but it's still riddled with holes from fasteners. Does the tape self-seal around a screw/nail? Does the adhesion of the tape last 20 years? Really? Tape that doesn't unstick "forever"? 104 degrees, -15 degrees, snow/ice, mildew, etc. Awful review. Any pro trying to get the scoop got nothing here. Please try again, you guys are usually better. Thanks.
How the Deckorator's Voyage vs Deckorator's Pioneer compare ? Didn't find that information on the web. Seems like Pionner is a Home Depot Exclusivity ?
Non deck related, but when you cough, you should cough into the middle of your arm and not your hand. Sorry, that's the epidemiologist in me talking. :-)
How is the fiberon PE good life?
You need your own LateNite Show. Or a Beer Commercial. Don’t become politically correct. Thanks for the vid!
Very helpful. Looking at a Fiberon option for our house on Catoctin Mountain.
OK, it’s been a year since you’ve made this video time to do another one new products come out by the same companies and it’s definitely made differently and more options. Would love to see an updated version of this great video by the way.
This video was incredibly helpful! I don't want to shell out the premium price tag for Deckorators Voyage, but I need the thermal stability + traction + moisture/mold resistance. Deckorators has come out with a few newer product lines, including Venture (their budget line) and Vista (which is mid-price), and I just can't figure out how they stack up next to the lineup that you laid out so nicely. @TheUltimateDeckShop Any chance you'd be willing to do an update, new video, or even just comment thread telling where you would rank some of the new product lines for these manufacturers?
What can use to seal the joist and some of the rotted joist?
